The Curaçao Public Library, an independent government service, became a foundation at the beginning of 1988 and, therefore, receives a subsidy from the government, to achieve its objects. However, this financial aid does not suffice, as the Public Library wants to expand its services and give more publicity to its products and services.

The Friends of the Library Foundation officially named “Friends of the Public Library Curaçao Foundation” was founded in 1996 with the following objectives:

• Support the mission and the ideals of the Curaçao Public Library financially and immaterially
• Promote the cultural and educational development of the Curaçao population, especially providing multi media information.
• Promote the Public Library and what it stands for

In the short term this foundation wants to focus rather on specific aspects, in order to reach its goals.
