The reference room is located on the first floor of the main library in Scharloo. Everyone aged 14 and older can study and read here in a relaxed environment where you can concentrate better. We were able to create such an environment by making it possible to study in groups exclusively in the other departments and by prohibiting the use of cellular phones in this room.

We also have computers, which you can use to:

• Search for information on CD-ROMs

There are quite a few dictionaries, encyclopedias and other works of reference, address books, atlases and a small collection of CD-ROMs. These materials are for reference only.

The reference room is well known for its documentation about a wide variety of interesting topics.

It's always best to have some sort of identification with you. In order to prevent the loss of valuable reference materials the library staff may ask for your ID when consulting these materials.

In our collection we try to include all areas of science, mostly in Dutch and English and some in Spanish and Papiamentu. If you are over 14 years of age you may start using the Reference Room.

Looking at the future. Choose your profession; read about career possibilities on a CD-ROM with all information about studies in the Netherlands and reference books on where to study in the United States.

In the reference room you can also read popular and scientific magazines such as: Buen Hogar, Discover, Elsevier, Gezondheid, Ideas, Libelle, Margriet, People, PC World, Newsweek, Vrij Nederland, Time, Vogue Voetbal International, Unesco Nieuws, Vanidades and many others in several languages. We also have several professional journals.

The public library is a public and accessible place in the broadest sense of the word and everyone is welcome at the library to broaden their knowledge and recreate. For this reason, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER IN ORDER TO MAKE USE OF OUR REFERENCE ROOM!
